St Michael’s Gardens, Headingley: an historic churchyard, a welcoming new sanctuary for reflection & connection
Once closed and inaccessible, the historic churchyard of Headingley Parish Church, St Michael & All Angels, is being reimagined as a welcoming, year-round green sanctuary for everyone – a place where the church’s fine architecture and historic monuments can be appreciated within a beautiful, biodiverse landscape. It offers an opportunity to step away from everyday life, a chance for quiet contemplation and to develop a deeper connection with nature in the heart of our community.
Through the introduction of new planting, seasonal flowers and habitats that encourage biodiversity, the gardens will become richer in wildlife and ecological value. A place that is cared for. As it evolves, it will be host to a seasonal programme of community events, arts, culture and wellbeing experiences, celebrating a living spirit of place where history, nature and people come together.
